Fortnite has only just turned to Season 8 and with it, there have been some amazing changes which we have covered here.
The first update to Season 8 has been released and a few of these changes are pretty interesting, others are the typical balancing acts you can expect whenever new weapons or items are introduced into a game, to make sure it’s well balanced. It’s a small update, (eye)patch v8.01 but has some fairly significant changes. (you can click here to see the full list of changes)
Fortnite Treasure Map Leads to Buried Treasure
Epic teased us with the Fortnite treasure map recently in the news feed and it has arrived! This item allows players to “uncover hidden loot across the island” by shining a mythical beam of light on the map, think Monty Pythons Holy Grail and you get the idea. Although I’m slightly exaggerating, in reality, it shows a small black X on the map where you should dig and a larger golden mark on the ground.
Confusingly, the item itself is called Buried Treasure. It does take up an item slot in your inventory and you can only carry one at a time but the payout is worth it.
This seemingly incredibly lucrative item is, for obvious reasons, a legendary status item. You won’t be finding this often around the Fortnite Treasure Map, too much of the buried treasure would defeat the purpose of needing a map!
Once you do come across the loot you have to whip out your pickaxe to get at it, make sure there isn’t anyone too close who might pick you off while you’re digging away. The fun thing about finding loot like this is that it is guaranteed Legendary status.
Bye-bye Bottle Rockets…
To balance out the addition of this incredibly fun item we also have the sad loss of the Bottle Rocket which has been vaulted after only one month in Fortnite.
This fantastically chaotic item had the ability to attach to vehicles and be fired off, let’s be honest, at random, to destroy the surrounding landscape and monuments. It was practically useless really but just fun if you got to be the one to use it. Apparently, a lot of players simply found this item quite annoying though so, at least for now, goodbye my bottle rocket (sheds a single tear).
Speaking of the realm of silly, slightly over the top items
A new mode has also been released called Slide Duos. It’s a Limited-Time mode so make the most of it while you can. This mode makes it considerably more difficult to control yourself as you go. Friction has been reduced to the point where it feels like handling on ice and your speed has gone up to the point where Sonic would struggle to keep up. Thankfully Epic have realised this is going to cause a lot of accidents and have been nice enough to remove fall damage. There’s also grapplers with unlimited ammunition which help you traverse the Ice Realm of Niflheim (disclaimer: is not actually an Ice Realm, in fact, it is now considerably less Icy than in the previous season. I’m just saying, it’s pretty damn slippy.)
