In the early hours of the morning, Samsung and Epic made a mistake on the Fortnite Item Shop.
Recently Samsung announced a new limited edition Fortnite Skin exclusively for S10 Plus Owners based off of South Korean group iKon‘s youngest member. You can check our coverage of that here.
So on March the 4th when Samsung posted a pretty nice cinematic video showcasing the new skin in action, some potential Samsung S10+ owners were really hyped to see it, although I doubt any S10+ owner purchased the phone specifically for this.
The following morning though, owners of EVERY Samsung phone were even more excited. In their haste to release this skin, (which has a questionable reach for popularity..) Samsung and Epic accidentally made the skin available for free for all users of all Samsung Devices that can run the Galaxy Apps store.
The issue only lasted around an hour before Epic realised the mistake and quickly pulled it from the shop to stop anyone else from making use of this issue.
But for the lucky few who managed to jump into the Fortnite Item Shop this morning, it looks like Epic might be letting them keep the skin. As of now, it is still showing in players Lockers. This could change though, it’s probably a discussion between Samsung and Epic about exclusivity, it’s understandable if they decide to remove this skin as it’s supposed to be a perk, a little bit of a status symbol I suppose to have a £1000 skin in the game (I kid, I know you paid that for the phone). But for players who have this skin through this error, they aren’t really at fault. It’s a debacle.
Instruction to get skin
The skin is supposed to become available when the Galaxy S10+ is available globally on March 7th so it’s only a few days to go until you can try it on.
For owners of the phone who want to get it the legit way, just follow the instructions below:
- Open Galaxy Apps and find Fortnite.
- Install it if you haven’t already and open the game.
- Log into your Epic Games account through the Fortnite game app. But if you haven’t synced your accounts yet, do that first to keep everything across all of your accounts. We have a helpful guide for doing that here.
- Check the tabs at the top and click on Store to access the Fortnite Item Shop, click on the Ikonik skin and redeem it.
- Enter your billing info. Your card will not be charged.
You have to quit out and back in after completing the above process but when you jump back in it should be in your locker. Then you can choose to Don your Kpop obsession with pride whenever you choose it after release.
What’s your take? Should Epic and Samsung let players who have stumbled onto the skin keep it? Would you have preferred a different skin?
