Splatoon 2 is about to hold its European Championship in Paris.
“Don’t get cooked…stay off the hook!”
For months teams have been competing in the vibrantly colourful, whacky king-of-the-hill, take the most territory, inky battle bliss that it is, Splatoon 2, to make it to the finals in their own respective countries. Destroying the grand stages and becoming national champions.
Now that they have to battle it out to see who will be crowned esports king of the Splatoon 2 European Championship. Like last year and like the tournament’s running up to this mighty gauntlet you’ll be able to stream it live through YouTube, Nintendos new Splatoon Tournament Website or Twitch to make sure you don’t miss out on one bit of the inky action. It will take place on the 9th and 10th of March in Paris at Gaîté Lyrique.
A bit about the competitors
For the UK, we have the returning Team Mako (love the name). These guys were sadly defeated by last year’s championship winners Backsquids, who are also going to be competing this year for Germany.
As well as these two teams we also have:
- UK: Team Mako
- Germany: BackSquids
- France: Alliance Rogue
- Spain: Polarized
- Italy: Ninplayers
- Portugal: Hexagone
- Netherlands: Polderlantis
- Switzerland: Huitante
- Belgium: Overtime
- Austria: Team ?
- Russia: Red Ink
- Nordic territories: Ämpäri Gang
When does Splatoon 2 Championship start?
The action will begin at 11 am GMT on Saturday the 9th of March. The twelve teams above will be split into four groups each with three teams. These three will Duke it out to see who comes top in each category and then the team in first place for each group will be put forward to the semi-finals which will start on Sunday at 12 pm GMT.
This will be broken down further into the top two teams who will then go squid-to-squid in a best of 7 Grand Final to declare the Splatoon 2 European Champion.
What will the winning Splatoon Platoon take home?
The winning team will walk away with the title as the Champions of Europe and will win a custom trophy, jerseys for the team and Nintendo Switch Pro Controllers which have been custom made for the tournament showcasing Splatoons sense of streetwear style and colourful graffiti!
How can I get involved?
You’re a little too late to embark on your own Inkling adventure if you wanted to compete in the championship, but there are still plenty of ways for ambitious Inklings and Octolings to get involved! You can head over to the Splatoon 2 Tournaments Website which according to Nintendo is a “New online community [where] you can assemble your own teams, recruit new members and join regular online tournaments – for fun, or for glory!” Even if you’re a solo player who just jumps online on the odd occasion you can still join in the fun as they have a “Find a Team” section to help with matchmaking, it finds players with a similar or complementary play style for you to join with!
