The first day of the CSGO WESG World Finals saw the first 8 teams lock their spot to the playoffs, as the first set of four groups, A to D, played their games.
G2 conquer Group A at the CSGO WESG World Finals
Group A was headlined by a perfectly performing G2 that eased past both Singularity and Revolution 2-0. (16-4, 16-6 and 16-0, 16-1) Singularity managed to grab the second spot after an equally convincing 2-0 series win over Revolution (16-2 and 16-1), sending them packing.
Group B saw a surprise when a strong Valiance, who had shown some great form during the EU minor dropped a map to NASR, tying the series 1-1 (16-3 and 13-16). Valiance would resurge when faced with Denial, easing past the South African roster 2-0 (16-3 and 16-4). Securing their playoff spot would be their upset against the Danish favorite, OpTic Gaming, sweeping them 2-0 in a series of close maps (16-13 and 16-10). Due to OpTic’s own 2-0 series win over respectively Denial (16-8 and 16-5) and NASR (16-10 and 16-12), they secured the second spot of Group B.
MIBR secure playoff spot as expected
Due to both Isurus and K23 pulling out of WESG, Group C featured only MIBR and AGO, which would see MIBR secure first seed for their spot as they won their series against AGO 2-0 (16-5 and 16-12).
The remaining group of the day, Group D saw Japanese Absolute just about manage to close the first map of Cache 22-20, followed up by a convincing 16-8 win on the second map, closing the series 2-0 against Furious. Furious would secure the second playoff spot as both teams had won against the remaining team in Group D, FrostFire, thereby closing the first day at WESG in Chongqing.
The following 8 teams have therefore secured their spot in the playoffs that are set to begin this coming Wednesday, the 13th:
